POSITION: Health Commissioner/Medical Director

TYPE OF POSITION: Part Time

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Licensed physician to practice medicine in the State of Ohio and able to see patients from birth through the lifespan. Also, must be eligible for State Board of Pharmacy terminal distribution licensure. Should already have an NPI number. Credentialing with various insurance providers is preferred. Knowledge of medical science and its application to public health practice, principles and practice of public health administration, and the laws governing public health practice. Knowledge of current communicable diseases, their symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment as well as epidemiology and disease surveillance systems. Training in Emergency Preparedness to be completed upon hire. Must hold a valid driver’s license. Must be a non-tobacco user. Must be vaccinated, including flu and COVID.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Under direct supervision of the Board of Health, the Health Commissioner/Medical Director functions as a part-time member of the Health Department team. The Health Commissioner/Medical Director is responsible for the development and evaluation of standards of medical care throughout the department, providing medical direction to clinical staff, and advising the department in matters of medical policy. Meets regularly with the Board of Health and advises the Board on medical policy. The Health Commissioner/Medical Director is responsible for collaboration and supervision of the department’s Nurse Practitioners. This position requires attendance at Health Commissioner’s conferences and at monthly Board of Health in-person meetings. The Health Commissioner/Medical Director is responsible for managing and assessing patients through the Tuberculosis Clinic. The Health Commissioner/Medical Director will consult in person, or remotely, with GCHD staff on all program and policy matters requiring medical decisions. The selected candidate will review medical policies, signing of standing orders for Public Health Nursing, and/or consultation with staff regularly regarding medically related concerns. This position requires the individual to be on call after business hours, respond to emergency calls, and participate in exercises as needed. The Health Commissioner/Medical Director must be present should a public health emergency occur. The selected candidate will agree to provide the necessary hours per week to meet the needs of the agreed upon employment contract.

RATE OF PAY AND BENEFITS: $25,000.00 -$50,000.00 per year; Ohio Public Employee Retirement System

SELECTION PROCEDURE: Selection will be based on the combination of relevant experience and ability as assessed by the Board of Health.
