The Medina County Health Department, a nationally accredited health department, has a full-time opening for an Epidemiologist. The purpose of this position is to conduct epidemiologic investigations used in preventing and controlling specific communicable and chronic diseases, injuries, and other health conditions and in planning health programs. Results of work efforts aid in the monitoring of health status and its correlates, identifying trends or outbreaks of diseases or other adverse health events, and providing data and information about corrective actions or programs to promote and protect public health.

Essential Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Carries out simple data collection, analysis, and reporting in support of surveillance and epidemiologic investigations
• Performs analyses by using statistical techniques commonly employed in epidemiologic evaluations to interpret and analyze observed health phenomena
• Uses surveillance systems to collect disease or health outcome data. Generates descriptive analyses of surveillance data for a variety of audiences.
• Prepare written and oral reports and presentations that communicate necessary information to agency personnel and the public
• Provide epidemiologic input into epidemiologic studies, public health programs, and community public health planning processes
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to get along well with others in stressful situations and provide leadership

Minimum Education, Training and/or Experience Needs:

Have advanced training in epidemiology/public health and act as a resource in epidemiologic investigations and analysis. Tabulate and analyze epidemiologic data by using appropriate statistical techniques in order to detect possible outbreaks. Carry out a range of investigative and analytical epidemiologic activities related to surveillance, detection, and prevention of diseases and injuries.

Thorough knowledge of statistical and database software needed for all data processing. Conduct descriptive analysis of the epidemiology of reported diseases. Monitor disease trends and create statistical reports.

Master’s degree in Public Health or similar field; or Bachelor’s in Public Health, or other bachelor’s degree or non-epidemiology degree (e.g., RN, EHRS) plus completion of basic epidemiology course and at least one graduate level course in epidemiology or biostatistics
