Summit County Public Health (SCPH) is a leader in Ohio in protecting and promoting the health of the entire community through high quality, innovative programs and activities designed to address the safety, health and well-being of people who live in Summit County. Through public and private partnerships, SCPH seeks to create a healthful environment and ensure the accessibility of health services to all.

SCPH has 175 full-time employees working in 22 operating units within four divisions:  nursing/clinical health, environmental health, family health and administrative/support services. In 2023, SCPH served more than 100,000 individuals. The annual operating budget is approximately $27 million with 58% funding from general revenue and 42% from grants. SCPH is accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board.

Summit County is located in northeast Ohio and has a population of 540,000. SCPH headquarters is in Akron, the county seat; there are four satellite offices.

The ideal candidate will embody the core values of SCPH and bring leadership and strategic insights to the work through the following skills and characteristics: 

Education and experience:  Master’s degree in environmental science, public health, or related field. Ten years of experience in public health or related field; familiar with public health concepts, practices, principles and a minimum of five years supervisory experience. National Incident Management System (NIMS)/Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 700, 300, 400 and IC20.11 (Diversity Training) certification within six months of appointment.

Job Requirements:  Current valid driver’s license, automobile availability, and liability insurance coverage. Must pass pre-employment background check, drug and alcohol testing and credit check verification. This is a full-time position that requires the ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as necessary. Occasional travel within Ohio required.

Compensation:  The salary range for the position is $148,000 to $172,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance and participation in the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System.
