Reports to: WIC Director
Salary: $21.08 - $24.82 per hour; $41,106 - $48,399 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
Under direction of the WIC Director, the Certifying Health Professional 1 performs a variety of nutrition and breastfeeding related functions, including nutrition and breastfeeding assessment, counseling, certification and benefits issuance for WIC participants. Assists with WIC program planning, provision, evaluation and outreach. Provides services in compliance with applicable program standards, state laws and rules, and Board of Health adopted policies and regulations. Represents assigned program/service area at community programs and with other community, state and regulating agencies to conduct routine business. This position is grant funded.
Essential Duties:
- Performs client-centered nutrition counseling/goal setting and implements individual care plans with non-high-risk WIC participants that are responsive to the identified needs/interests of each participant, making appropriate referrals and completing documentation in accordance with WIC program standards to ensure the needs of participants are being addressed.
- Assesses and documents WIC participant’s nutritional risks. Identifies, confers and refers high-risk participants to a qualified nutritionist through assessment of biomedical, dietary, environmental, social and cultural data. Performs data entry into WIC computer system in accordance with WIC program standards to ensure quality and accurate determination and documentation of eligibility for WIC program. Prescribes and issues food benefits using established criteria.
- Performs breastfeeding assessment, instruction, support, referral and promotion in order to educate participants, participant support systems and the community on the importance of breastfeeding as a sustainable lifestyle that promotes good health and protects against illness and disease.
- Performs anthropometric and immunization assessment and counseling: collects, organizes and enters data into WIC computer system per established guidelines to ensure efficient clinic flow and compliance with WIC Program standards.
- Functions as replacement for Support Staff when needed by entering data and running reports from computer system, screening participant application for income, residency, category and identity, and greeting participants, answering phones and scheduling appointments in order to maintain efficient clinic flow.
- Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable Public Employee Risk Reduction Program safety standards that pertain to essential duties
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
Qualifications: Dietetic technician (DT) must have completed approved two-year associate degree dietetic technician program. Must possess & maintain a valid & unrestricted registration as appropriate. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and proof of auto liability insurance coverage required.
Working Conditions: Very limited overtime may be required. Travel within Ohio required. Occasional work at night or on weekends. May come in contact with blood/body fluids.
