Salary Range $110,000.00 - $135,000.00
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Administrator of Geauga Public Health (“GPH”) is hired by the Board of Health and will work at the general direction of the Board of Health and in unison with the Health Commissioner. The Administrator is responsible for the following:
- Communicates regularly and frequently with Board of Health members.
- Prepares agendas and meeting materials for Board of Health meetings and meetings of its subcommittees.
- Acts as Secretary to the Board of Health and posts meeting minutes.
- Carries out the orders and directions from the Board of Health.
- Provides management oversight of GPH’s leadership team, including such activities as:
- Assures adequate staffing which includes direct and indirect oversight of all activities related to hiring, corrective action, termination, layoffs, coaching, succession planning, etc.
- Approves time away, expenses, etc.as appropriate.
- Approves and provides oversight of the performance evaluation process for GPH employees; and
- Provides coaching and guidance to leadership staff.
- Plans and assures the effective implementation of programs to promote and protect the health of the Geauga County population through active participation with the Community Health Assessment, Community Health Improvement Planning, Geauga Public Health Strategic Planning, Quality Improvement planning and implementation, Workforce Development planning and implementation and Performance Management implementation.
- Leads organizational efforts to achieve and maintain local health department accreditation from the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB).
- Assures GPH conducts, participates, leads in, and provides:
- Organizational strategic planning and monitors progress toward strategic goals.
- Ongoing community health assessments and planning in partnerships with other community stakeholders; and
- Information to external stakeholders and the public through in-person meetings, community forums, email, newsletters and/or written reports about trends and events.
- Identifies and pursues funding from public and private foundation sources to address public health priorities.
- Responds to public health emergencies in accordance with response plans using the incident command system.
- Serves as primary media spokesperson for GPH on public health topics or identifies other subject matter experts for that role.
- Consults with municipal, township and village leaders to assure that mutual expectations for public health services are being met. Develops new community collaborations, coalitions, and initiatives when appropriate to address emerging public health issues.
- Performs other duties, which by statute, regulation, rule, or otherwise, must be performed by the Health Commissioner and are delegated by the Health Commissioner, including but not limited to enforcement of all sanitary laws and regulations in the district and to keep the public informed of all matters affecting the health of the district.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A master’s degree in Public Health or related field and/or Advanced Nursing Degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in a management role with experience managing multiple departments, operational management, fiscal management, and ability to organize and implement new programs preferred.
- Experience in government organizations, non-profit organizations, or healthcare delivery setting preferred.
- Experience working with Board leadership preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel required.
- Must have a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and remain insurable in accordance with GPH’s insurance policy.
