Emergency Preparedness Coordinator
Tuscarawas County Health Department
Role and Responsibilities: Under general supervision, the preparedness coordinator works closely with the Emergency Management Office of Tuscarawas County for the investigation and response of natural and man made disasters, industrial accidents, epidemics, and/or terrorism threats.
Experience and Education Requirements: Bachelors’ degree in health education, emergency services, natural science or equivalent degree and should have two years’ experience in emergency management or have the equivalent in education and work experience. Previous experience in a health department setting is preferred.
Valid Ohio driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.
Essential Duties:
- Represents the agency at community functions and meetings as requested.
- Coordinates TCHD Community Partners Meetings
- Coordinates public health activities concerning acts of bioterrism including chemical, biological, radio-logical
- Develops training materials to educate employees and the public to facilitate competence with public health emergency preparedness programs
- Completes, evaluates, maintains and updates as appropriate Tuscarawas County Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Plans
- Serves as TCHD Emergency Preparedness coordinator representative for committees and organizational meetings
- Assists in preparation of grants and administrative requirements of grants.
- Monitors grant expenditures and budgets.
- Assists with grant compliance and summary reports.
- Prepares and maintains appropriate records and completes reports by required deadlines.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on temporary committees, as requested and is required to be punctual at such meetings.
- Maintains and increases knowledge and skills through attendance at meetings, conferences, training seminars and in-service training.
- Performs additional duties and assignments, as requested by Grants Coordinator and/or Health Commissioner.

Working Conditions:
- Answers telephone calls and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, copier and fax machines, etc.
- Individual bends, reaches, pushes, and pulls file drawers to file information.
- Vision abilities required are up close vision and the ability to adjust and focus.
- Must be to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Employees in this classification may occasionally need to relate to members of the public who exhibit challenging, atypical or hostile behaviors and/or communication.
Must be a non-tobacco user
Starting Rate: $22.64
