Breastfeeding Peer Helper (Two Positions)

Position: Breastfeeding Peer Helper (Two Positions), (21-28 hours per week & 15-20 hours per week)
Pay Grade: 9
Salary: $13.07 Base
Shift Times: Generally scheduled during the hours of: Mon, Tues, Thurs (8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.), Wednesday (10:00 A.M. to 6:30 P.M.), and Friday (8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.).  May include evenings, weekends and holidays.

Essential Functions of the Position: Under the general supervision of the WIC Supervisor, the Breastfeeding Peer Helper is responsible for providing breastfeeding information to pregnant and breastfeeding women, making referrals when necessary to a Certified Lactation Counselor/Certified Lactation Specialist/International Board Certified Lactation Consultant following policy and protocols, performing car seat installation training and assisting with the breastfeeding and clerical activities of the WIC project.

Required education, experience and training:

  1. Ohio Train 700 a., 100 b., 200 b. and 800 b. certification (or as amended) must be completed within sixty (60) days of employment.
  2. High school diploma or GED
  3. Must be a current or past WIC participant and have breastfed one (1) baby for at least six (6) months.
  4. Must successfully complete approved breastfeeding training within six (6) months of the date of hire.
  5. Must successfully complete car seat technician training and obtain Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification within six (6) months of the date of hire.
  6. Must successfully obtain six (6) hours of continuing education in lactation topics per year.
  7. Must successfully complete Civil Rights Training, Conflict of Interest Training, WIC System and Security Training and VENA Training.
