Environmental Health Specialist-in-Training or Registered Environmental Health Specialist

Job Duties:  Assisting in the performance of inspections, routine testing and sampling duties in Environmental Health programs which may include but not be limited to: food service operations and retail food establishments, vending, schools, camps, swimming pools and spas, body art establishments, jails/institutions, housing units, sewage treatment systems, land septage application, private water/wells, water samples, solid waste disposal, construction and demolition debris landfills, refuse hauling and/or septage hauling vehicles, water hauling vehicles, vector control and rabies control; investigates foodborne or other illnesses and public health nuisances; collects water and effluent samples; performs routine tests according to established health district policy and procedures to enforce state and local laws, and rules and regulations. All Greene County Public Health employees have an emergency response role and may be expected to respond to threats to the public’s health in accordance with the Greene County Emergency Response Plan.

Minimum Qualifications:  Baccalaureate degree in Environmental Health or related science degree with minimum 45 quarter or 30 semester hours of science required. Must be a Registered Environmental Health Specialist or Environmental Health Specialist-In-Training with valid driver’s license and own vehicle at the time of hire.

Newly hired employees must submit proof of completed COVID-19 vaccination per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines on date of hire. 

Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., unpaid lunch. Evenings and weekends as required.
