Public Health Nurse

Union County Health Department

Part-Time, Classified, Hourly, Non-Exempt. Up to 22.50 hours per week, Monday – Friday. The pay range for this position is $17.44 - $23.58 per hour, based on experience.

Prepare and administer vaccines in compliance with all guidelines. Promote and provide education on the importance of immunizations and the prevention and control of diseases, best practices, and general health awareness. Maintain active partnerships with local medical providers of child and adult vaccines. Obtain intake information; complete prep work; prepare patient for clinical procedures; set up procedure tray, supplies, and medications; and alert health care provider of patient readiness. Perform Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived testing; clean lab and exam rooms; and dispose of medical waste. Provide direct nursing care in clinics and administer oral medication and intramuscular injections and medications. Fulfill patient requests for information; assist with inventory control and security; assist with ordering clinic supplies and medications; prepare and/or provide clinical follow-up; and input client data for mandatory reporting purposes. Provide Nursing services to local schools. Conduct health screenings, referrals, and follow-up; monitor health records; serve as a resource advisor; refer special needs clients to appropriate resources/programs; provide annual medication administration training; and develop Individual Healthcare Plans (IHP’s) and/or Emergency Action Plans (EAP’s).   Assist in the development of goals, objectives, and infrastructures for the division.

Must be detail oriented, organized, possess strong oral and written communication skills and listening skills, excellent time management skills, strong customer service skills, ability to multi-task, and work well as part of a team. A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN); or an Associate’s Degree and 1-3 years of direct nursing experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience required. An unrestricted Ohio Registered Nurse license; CPR certified for adults, children, and infants; and ability to maintain licensure and certification required. A valid Ohio Driver’s License, valid auto liability insurance, the ability to maintain auto liability insurance, and the ability to maintain insurability under the County’s vehicle insurance policy essential. Must be able to lift and carry object weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted and up to 50 pounds with assistance. Proficient in Microsoft Office and a basic knowledge of electronic medical record systems necessary. Previous experience working in a public health environment is beneficial.
