Mosquito Surveillance

The Galion City Health Department has received funding from the Ohio EPA Mosquito Control Grant Program to implement mosquito control measures and mitigate the potential for an outbreak of mosquito-borne viruses such as West Nile Virus. The Galion City Health Department is seeking a Mosquito Surveillance Intern/ Independent Contractor to work approximately 25 hours per week for 18 weeks (negotiable); $11/ hr.

Position Summary: The Candidate will Set and Check traps, Collect adult mosquitos for shipment or analysis, Check for mosquito larvae and apply larvicide if needed, track areas of surveillance and known breeding areas, map needs and document activities, Investigate nuisance/ mosquito complaints, Educate residents of steps for mosquito abatement, Maintain and store equipment responsibly, Complete other mosquito control related tasks as needed, create press releases or Facebook post regarding the mosquito program as well as continuing a Mosquito Program Plan for the City.

Other job responsibilities may include: Performs inspections, investigations, routine testing and sampling duties in Environmental Health programs which may benefit the Mosquito Program such as assisting with solid waste scrap tire complaints. Candidate must enforce state and local laws, and rules and regulations. Participate in public health emergency responses and trainings as needed.
