Public Health Nurse – intermittent LPN or RN

Union County Health Department

Intermittent, Unclassified, Hourly, Non-Exempt. Hours are varied based upon the needs of the agency. Intermittent employees are required to work a minimum of 6 hours per quarter and a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year.

The pay range for this position is LPN $16.08 - $22.15 per hour, RN $17.18 - $23.24 per hour, based on experience.

As assigned and under general supervision and direction, obtain intake information; prepare patients for clinical procedures; set up procedure tray, supplies, and medications; administer oral and intramuscular medication; alert nursing and physician staff of patient readiness. Provide client education and teaching as applicable. Monitor clinical supply inventory and assist with the inventory control and security of medications, refrigerator checks, and prescription pads. Perform various activities in order to facilitate clinic operations. Greet patients, distribute paperwork, and document and enter patient and service data. Receive and respond to patient telephone calls. Make reminder phone calls to patients regarding scheduled office visits. Provide assistance and support to student nurses and contract nurses. The following job responsibilities apply to the RN position only: Provide direct nursing care in all clinics, including Immunization, Prenatal, and Reproductive Health Clinics. Perform Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waived testing. Educate patients on various health related topics, and in selecting behaviors for a healthy lifestyle. Conduct presentations relating to important health care issues and preventative measures to outside groups. Conduct outreach and case finding activities to promote positive health programs. Receive and respond to inquiries from the public and other governmental agencies regarding health concerns. Assist in the development of goals, objectives, and infrastructures for the division.

Must be detail oriented, organized, possess strong oral and written communication skills and listening skills, excellent time management skills, strong customer service skills, ability to multi-task, and work well as part of a team. An unrestricted Ohio Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse license; CPR certified for adults, children, and infants; and ability to maintain licensure and certification required. A valid Ohio Driver’s License, valid auto liability insurance, the ability to maintain auto liability insurance, and the ability to maintain insurability under the County’s vehicle insurance policy essential. Must be able to lift and carry object weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted and up to 50 pounds with assistance. Proficient in Microsoft Office and a basic knowledge of electronic medical record systems necessary. Previous experience working in a public health environment is beneficial. Additional LPN requirement: a minimum of one (1) year of direct nursing experience. Additional RN requirement: A Bachelor’s degree, or an Associate’s degree plus a minimum of 1 year of direct nursing experience.
