Division: Environmental Health
Reports to: Environmental Health Director
Position: Classified, benefits-eligible based on hours
Hours: 40 hours per week, some weekend and evening hours
Salary: Range is Sanitarian-in-Training $18.06-$28.17, Registered Sanitarian $18.85-$29.24 per hour commensurate with experience and skills

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general direction of the Director of Environmental Health, the Registered Sanitarian/Sanitarian-in-Training is responsible for rendering and managing general professional public health sanitarian duties in licensed facilities, homes, and other community settings; performs related duties as required. Participate in public health emergency response as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Position requires:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of a variety of public health policies and environmental health programs is expected. Environmental Health programs may include but not be limited to: food service operations, retail food establishments, vending, schools, camps, swimming pools, spas, body art establishments, jails/institutions, Smoke Free Ohio, school inspection, sewage treatment systems, land septage application, private water/wells, water samples, solid waste disposal, refuse hauling and/or septage hauling vehicles, water hauling vehicles, vector control and rabies control; investigates foodborne or other illnesses and public health nuisances; collects water and effluent samples; performs routine tests according to established health district policy and procedures to enforce state and local laws.

Ability to conduct inspections, communicate effectively in written and oral form; to work with operators and applicable public towards regulatory compliance; resolve complaints from the general public; prepare meaningful, concise and accurate reports; and use proper research methods in gathering data. Ability to educate operators and the general public.
