Environmental Health Director/RS
City of Ironton Health Department
Position Status: Full-time
Salary Range: Pay grade starts at $20.00/hour. Salary will be reflective of education, license/registration, and experience.
Scope: This position is responsible to the health commissioner for the efficient operation of the agency’s environmental health programs by performing policy and planning functions, providing recommendations for policies, programs, and services, establishing division budget, evaluating service area efforts, supervising staff, performing duties and ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local rules, regulations, and health laws.
Essential Duties (including, but not limited to):
- Perform policy and planning functions by assisting with the development of the agency’s strategic plan and creating, monitoring, evaluating service area and staff level work as needed in the field.
- Provide recommendation for policies, programs, and services in alignment with the agency’s adopted mission and vision, community needs, and federal, state, and local mandates
- Develop or approve procedures related to the operation of service area programs, ensures compliance, and ensures timely review of all operational procedures.
- Formulate and monitor service area budget; ensure fiscal responsibility by operating within approved budget, monitoring and maintaining proper control over all expenditures, and working proactively with the fiscal officer to understand all budgetary items
- Research funding opportunities and/or resources for public health needs in the City of Ironton, provide recommendations to health commissioner for application, implementation of new funding and establish a positive work environment.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with public health partners and elected officials
- Serve as a spokesperson, when assigned, for the agency at public meetings, boards, and with the media
- Respond to calls through the 24-hour hotline in a timely manner.
- Collaborate in the development of and contribute to individual, team, and service area quality improvement and evaluation activities
Minimum Qualifications:
- An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, public health or related field strongly preferred
- Registration as a Sanitarian with the Ohio State Board of Sanitarian Registration
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the following areas: management/supervision, budgeting/fiscal management, program planning and evaluation, research, and public speaking
- Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and access to reliable transportation
