RS I/Sanitarian-In-Training (SIT)

Position Status: Full-time Exempt Pay Range: $14.00 - $17.00 (hourly)/ $29,120 -$35,360 (annually)
Essential Duties:
- Perform or assist Registered Sanitarian with inspections or various premises, facilities, and environmental health systems to ensure compliance with state and local laws.
- Perform or assist Registered Sanitarian with dog bite investigations.
- Document agency inspection and investigation activities; write and maintain records and report of daily activities.
- Engage in training activities to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to perform public health enforcement activities.
- Participates in community drills, exercises, and projects representing the agency to assure public health needs are addressed.
- Assist with environmental health education to the public.
- Conducts or assists Registered Sanitarian with onsite inspections of food service operations, vending machine sites, schools, cafeterias, swimming pools and spa for health safety and/or concerns.
- Conducts or assist Registered Sanitarian with inspections on household sewage treatment systems, nuisance complaints, rabies program, radon grant, recreational park and temporary park camps, tattoo and/or body piercing operations, and water wells/private water systems.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is:
- Current registration and/or eligible for the Ohio Board of Sanitarian Registration with a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, or related field required;
- At least six months experience dealing with inspections, testing, sampling and/or program regulations;
- Or an equivalent combination of education training and experience
- Proficient computer skills (MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License with
- Non-tobacco user
Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday and occasional evenings and weekends
