Director of Environmental Health

Carroll County General Health District

Position Status: Full-time Exempt  Pay Grade Range: Salary is based on experience and qualifications

Essential Duties:
·       Responsible to the Health Commissioner and Board of Health for recommendations, development and the supervision of policies, procedures and administrative rules necessary for the efficient operation of environmental health programs and services.
·       Plans, coordinates, and evaluates environmental health programs consistent with the agency’s strategic plan, mission, and vision; interprets and ensures compliance with statutes and regulations that impact environmental health.
·       Develops and monitors the environmental health division budget.
·       Performs supervisory functions including staffing, training, and orienting new hires. Assigns, reviews, and directs work; evaluates performance, initiates disciplinary actions, and responds to concerns as they relate to the staff in the environmental health division.
·       Informs the Board of Health of activities and current issues.
·       Participates in community projects representing the agency to assure public health needs are addressed.
·       Responsible for responding to environmental health type emergency calls, including 24 hour on call coverage. Provides technical information and support to agencies and the community during public health emergencies.
·       Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

Minimum Qualifications:An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  An example of an acceptable qualification is:
·       Current registration with the Ohio Board of Sanitarian Registration with a Master’s degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or related field required
·       Minimum of two (2) years of experience of increasingly responsible experience in environmental health or related field involving public health program development and administration
·       A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the following areas; management/supervision, budgeting, fiscal management, program planning and evaluation, research, and public speaking
·       Proficient computer skills (MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
·       Valid Ohio Driver’s License
·       Non-tobacco user
